Literature for inspiration and guidance

Hello Dungeon World!

I've bought this PDF and I'm really digging it.  I would really like to run this game, but I think I need to brush up on some Fantasy (or other types) of literature before I run it.

What would you recommend that would help me imagining and describing for my players typical dungeon crawl environments and battles?  Any suggestions, classics or new, would be helpful!

Thanks!

Oh man!

Okay, so it's going to vary really wildly, because DW draws on so many sources for inspiration.  Any of the quotes in the book are there because, in some way, the book, movie, tv show, album, etc inspired a part of the game.  So any of that stuff is good fuel for the fire.

Specifically, for Fantasy Lit, you cannot go wrong with the grand-daddy of all recommendation lists, the mighty APPENDIX N.

Howard's Conan stories; Red Nails, Tower of the Elephant in particular.

Joe Abercrombie's The Blade itself

Ursula le Guin's Earthsea Quartet.

Fritz Leiber's Ill Met in Lankhmar and the other Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser stories

I'm told, Jack Vance's Dying Earth series, though I haven't managed to read those yet myself.

Here's an Amazon list of books mentioned in the famous Appendix N of the AD&D DMG.
