I'm a little very curious about how AW got started and I'd like to take a peek at that fabled playtest document some of you priviledged bunch got access to in the early days. Can some good soul help me get it or is it a BFA taboo that will make V. Baker launch a fatwah at me or something ?

Am I even asking that in the right forum ?

I have a hardcopy, but it's basically the same as the final, with these key differences:

- Seduce/manipulate worked differently, briefly
- Maybe a playbook or two is different in details having to do with persuasion/coercion
- there is less MC advice
- Go aggro kinda sucked

It is not you could say very interesting... it's just Apocalypse World but not as done.

I think the original playtest blog is still up, if you're curious about the birthing process - I'm not sure there's actually any docs up there, but it's very interesting.

I don't think Vincent's about to start a fatwah against anyone! But what do I know? Hah.

The playtest blog is here:

I might be able to hunt up one or another of the playtest documents for you. Email me.

Shreyas is right, though.

Cool!

If you have any questions or observations, by all means share 'em.

I went through a few items and comments. Nice to see how the design refined itself with playtesters and readers' feedback. Just a question though : I understand the very first rules draft used two different dice, one red and one "standard". How did it work ?

I don't remember. Something about whether the red die was higher or the white one was, maybe?

If stat+red > threshold, red hit.
If stat+red+white > threshold, mixed hit.

It's neat to look at in text, but in play it was ungainly and confusing, and when you rolled 6es on the white die it was always kinda depressing (if that were red I'd have had the good hit!)
